Do I have to post publicly to use Litterae?

Posting publicly is the point, but it is your call what goes out.

Why public is the default

Litterae is built around work being findable. A post nobody can see does not do the thing the platform is for. It cannot be browsed, cannot be tagged into a combination, and cannot lead anyone back to you.

That is a real trade and it is worth naming rather than glossing. A private portfolio is safer. It is also only useful to people you have already decided to send it to, which means it can only ever confirm an impression rather than create one. Litterae is for the second thing.

What you actually control

You choose what to publish, post by post. Nothing is automatic, nothing is imported, and nothing goes out because you were quiet.

Your contact details are not public. What appears is what you put in a post, plus the profile fields you filled in.

Showing work without showing confidential work

Most people's strongest work is bound up with something they cannot share: a client, a contract, numbers, an unreleased product. The way through is almost always to show the method rather than the artefact.

• The process you designed, not the client it was for
• The structure of the solution, not the revenue it produced
• The workflow and the tools in it, not the account it ran on
• The problem and how you approached it, not the internal document

A sanitised version of a real workflow is still a genuine demonstration of how you work. And how you work is what someone browsing is assessing. They are not, in practice, auditing your results. They are trying to work out whether you would be good at the thing they need.

When to redact rather than skip

If a post is mostly showable with two things blurred, blur the two things.

Screenshots with a client name cropped out, a dashboard with figures removed, a document with the header gone: all of these are normal and none of them weaken the post. The instinct to skip a post entirely because one element is sensitive is the same instinct that keeps most good work invisible.

The test is simple. If you would describe this work out loud to someone at an event without breaching anything, you can post the same version of it.

If you are between things, or currently employed

Neither is a reason to stay off.

Posting work-related content is not a signal about your intentions. The Open to tags are where intent lives, and they are yours to set or leave blank. You can post steadily and be open to nothing at all, and nothing on your profile will suggest otherwise.

If you would rather not signal anything, leave open-to empty. Your work is still findable by tool and by kind of work, which is the majority of how people browse anyway.
